our projects

solarizing sour springs longhouse

Through Sacred Earth place-based governance model, the hereditary leadership of the Sour Springs Longhouse led the project from inception to implementation leading the decision-making of all stages of the project. Our partnership with their hereditary governance illuminated every aspect of our project, and is an example of how Indigenous-led climate solutions can be done right.

The first portion of the project focused on community engagement and education as well as providing some electrical updates to the buildings. We supported the longhouse in providing electrical updates in all four buildings by updating new light fixtures and receptacles for safety purposes. Monthly meetings took place to support the design and development of our project vision and what everyone wanted for the longhouse which is what informed our three phase approach of solar, retrofits, and our seed storage. From 2023-2024, we worked together to implement the solar portion of the sustainable restoration project.
