Energy Transition Policy Brief
Monday, April 13, 2026
This brief is intended for federal and provincial decision-makers, policy advisors, and partners working on Canada’s energy transition.
Sacred Earth has released a new policy brief outlining key recommendations to advance an Indigenous-led, just energy transition in Canada. As federal leaders consider major investments in a national electricity grid and energy infrastructure, this brief calls for coordinated action grounded in Indigenous rights, public ownership, and climate science. Drawing on community experience and coalition advocacy, it presents a roadmap for equitable and sustainable energy policy.

This political education resource developed by Sacred Earth and the Technoscience Research Unit unpacks what “critical minerals” are, why governments are investing heavily in them, and what this means for Indigenous lands, rights, and sovereignty.
As global demand for minerals used in renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and defence technologies accelerates, this resource explores the tensions between the energy transition and extractive systems that continue to impact Indigenous communities.
Grounded in Indigenous-led perspectives, we examine funding, supply chains, militarization, and the importance of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) in shaping a truly just transition.
Our offering is designed to support community dialogue, political education, and informed engagement.
