Indigenous peoples are at the frontlines of climate change perpetuated by ongoing colonialism.
In so-called Canada, Indigenous communities make up 42 percent of wildfire evacuations even though they are only five percent of the population. Imposed laws and regulations, like the Indian Act, exclude many Indigenous communities from regional energy systems. Approximately 178 remote Indigenous and Northern communities are not connected to the North American electricity grid and natural gas infrastructure.
